Michael C. Pitter, M.D., PA

Our Physician

Michael C. Pitter, M.D.

Dr. Pitter was born in Kingston, Jamaica and completed his high school education at St. Georges College. He migrated to the United States in 1977 to attend the University Of Illinois College of Engineering where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.

While at the University of Illinois, he volunteered as a tutor in Project Upward Bound, tutoring high school and college students in Math and Science for three years.

After graduation, he worked with Union Carbide Corporation as a Chemical Process Engineer and was instrumental in the start up of a new plastics processing plant in Oklahoma. While there, he designed a tool that would facilitate the processing of plastics into consumer goods and was awarded a patent proposal. Not satisfied with the life as a Chemical Engineer, he returned to the University of Illinois to prepare for medical school.

He attended the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School from 1986 to 1990 and while there again volunteered to tutor high school and college students in anatomy in an effort to help recruit more students to the field of Medicine.

He completed his training in the field of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and was a pioneer in the field of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery by performing the first laparoscopic myomectomy at the hospital. By doing surgery this way, the patient has less pain and is able to return to work earlier with less complications and blood loss even for large benign tumors. Currently he is involved in training other Gynecologic Surgeons from all over the world in the very latest techniques in advanced laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery.

He is also a member of the Caribbean Medical Mission comprised of a multi specialty group of physicians who volunteer their time and expertise to treat the needy and people who would otherwise not have access to medical care here in the United States and in the Caribbean.

He lectures for community organizations educating the public on pertinent health care issues.

"Providing compassionate medical care, one patient at a time…."

Dr Pitter maintains involvement in several local and national professional societies and holds appointments at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Hackensack University Medical Center.
